Automatic multicam editing tools, compared.
"Automatic multicam" means different things depending on where the switching happens. Here is how the common options actually differ, including what ours do not do.
If you already edit in Premiere Pro and record one microphone per person, Video Follows Audio gives you a speaker-driven multicam cut without leaving Premiere, for $49 once. For performances and events with no per-person audio, Edimatic switches on timing rules. Cloud editors like Descript and Riverside fit best if you want recording, transcription and editing in one browser tool and accept a subscription and a different editing environment. Hardware switchers like YoloBox or ATEM solve it live, at record time, and cost the most.

Start from what you have.
You edit in Premiere and record separate mics.
Video Follows Audio is the shortest path. It uses the timeline you already have, installs nothing outside Premiere, and produces a first pass you refine like any other edit. It does not transcribe or edit by text; pair it with Premiere's transcript tools for that.
You want record, transcribe and edit in one place.
Descript and Riverside are built around their own recordings. Their speaker switching is convenient and text-based editing is strong. Trade-offs: subscription pricing, editing in their environment, cloud processing of your media, weaker results on footage recorded elsewhere.
You are switching a concert, talk or ceremony.
Speaker detection does not help with one podium mic or a board mix. Edimatic switches on rhythm: per-angle durations, variance, favored angles, one pass over the whole program. Nothing else here does timing-rule switching inside an NLE.
You need the cut finished when the event ends.
A hardware switcher with audio-follow-video, because the switching happens live. Costs are the hardware, crew attention at the shoot, and permanent decisions unless you also record ISOs and re-cut later with Video Follows Audio or Edimatic.
You want full manual control.
Premiere's multicam mode is the most flexible and the slowest. A common hybrid: let Video Follows Audio or Edimatic produce the first pass, then use multicam view to fix the handful of cuts that need a human.
What Tog Tools do not do.
- They do not transcribe, remove filler words, or edit by text. Use Premiere's transcript features or a dedicated tool for that.
- They do not sync waveforms. Sync first with Premiere, or place clips by timecode and timestamp with Timebomb.
- Video Follows Audio needs isolated microphones. Edimatic does not analyze speakers at all.
- Mac only, Adobe Premiere Pro only. No Windows, Final Cut or Resolve versions today.
